Well, we are on our seventh day of visiting Will. Each day when we arrive at the babyhouse, he is in his crib, usually asleep, face down. He almost never cries, and when he does, it is the weakest, most pitiful thing – with all of the other crying babies, there is no way his cry would warrant any attention. I think some of the babies just figure – why bother? So we get him out of bed, then feed him breakfast – a huge bowl of a cream of wheat looking substance. If we are lucky, there is some form of fresh fruit puree in there too (usually apple as they are plentiful in Kazakhstan).
There is a new doctor that cares for the babies in Will’s room. She is very young and very strict! Maybe she has something to prove. Seems like each day there is a new rule to follow. My hope is that she has the babies’ best interests at heart. Yesterday, she declared that as soon as the babies had eaten, we all needed to go outside. It is nice to be outside, the weather has been beautiful, but since the babies are in snow suits, and can’t walk yet, it gets a little boring to hold them for 70 mins or so. The fresh air is good for them, and I try and get Will in the sun – his skin is actually paler than Katie’s!
We went to lunch yesterday with two other families. We went to a place we dined in last time we were here named, The Three Fat Men. They have a delicious Korean noodle soup- yum! They used to also have these delicious fried dough pieces, though they didn’t have them yesterday. They are a traditional Kazakh food, so we will be in search of them elsewhere.
We have been told we may have a visit with the social workers this week, so our coordinator said to bring lots of pictures of Katie. They always love to see how the kids look when they grow up!
